Piano Lessons

Create, Improvise, Play, Read, and Enjoy Music for a Lifetime!

Mountain Melody Music Studio
Why So Many Children Lose Interest in Piano Lessons

Most children begin piano lessons excited and curious, but that enthusiasm often fades after starting traditional instruction. What begins as a love of music can quickly turn into frustration and resistance at home.

Traditional piano lessons often focus on reading notes right away, perfecting pieces, and repeating technical drills. For many children, this turns practice into homework rather than creative exploration. Music theory can feel abstract, practice becomes a chore, and children may begin to rely on constant correction instead of developing independence and confidence.

Over time, this approach can leave children feeling disconnected from the joy of music-making — practicing alone, worrying about mistakes, and losing the sense of play that first drew them to music.

Our Solution: A Different Kind of Piano Lesson

Imagine piano lessons where your child looks forward to practicing—where music feels playful, meaningful, and rewarding instead of frustrating or overwhelming.

At Mountain Melody Music Studio, we teach piano the way children naturally learn: through listening, movement, exploration, and creativity—before focusing on reading notes on the page. This approach helps children truly understand music, not just memorize it.

From the very first lesson, students are making real music. They improvise, play short pieces, move to rhythm, sing, and explore patterns at the piano through games and hands-on activities. Learning feels active and engaging, not like homework.

Lessons are offered in small groups of 2–4 students or private lessons, allowing children to build confidence, learn from one another, and feel supported—while still receiving personalized guidance from Luanne. Group lessons create a sense of community and fun, while private lessons offer flexibility for individual goals.

As students grow, they naturally develop strong musical foundations that support:

  • confident playing by ear

  • creative expression and improvisation

  • reading music with understanding (not fear)

  • independence and self-motivation

Most importantly, children learn that music is something they do, not something they get graded on. Whether your child is just beginning or returning after a discouraging experience, our goal is the same: to help them build confidence, joy, and a lifelong love of music in a warm, encouraging environment.

Why Group Piano Lessons Work So Well for Kids

Children often learn best when they’re not learning alone.

At Mountain Melody Music Studio, small group piano lessons (2–4 students) give children the chance to learn alongside peers, build friendships, and feel supported—while still receiving individual attention from the teacher.

Group lessons help children:

  • feel more confident and less afraid of making mistakes

  • stay motivated by seeing others learn and grow

  • develop independence instead of relying on constant correction

  • experience music as something joyful and social, not isolating

For many children, learning music in a group feels more natural and encouraging than one-on-one instruction alone. Private lessons are also available for older students or specific needs, and even private students benefit from occasional group experiences that reinforce confidence and connection.

Whether learning together or individually, our goal is the same: to help children enjoy music, grow musically, and feel proud of what they can do.

Our two daughters love taking piano with Luanne! Both began in first grade as beginners (they had never played before) and as parents we have been incredibly impressed with how patient Luanne is with our daughters and their learning styles. They have both grown leaps and bounds in their musical knowledge and it is exciting to listen to our girls play the piano all the time at home, and to listen to them begin to experiment with their own notes to make their own music. They are always excited to take their piano lessons. Some added benefits I have noticed through their time in Luanne's Music Studio is an increased ability for our children to focus on a learning activity (not just piano) as well as an increased amount of personal responsibility and pride in their own work. We could not be happier with all they have learned with Luanne, and they could not be happier with how much fun they have!  Ashley
